TOTAL TRADE
The total value of U.S bilateral trade with our six CAFTA-DR partners increased 37% from 2005 to 2010, from $35 billion to $48 billion.
Intra-regional trade among the CAFTA-DR countries has also increased significantly. Exports within Central America and the Dominican Republic expanded from $4.2 billion in 2005 to an estimated $6.3 billion in 2010, a gain of 50 percent.
OVERALL U.S. EXPORTS
• The United States posted a surplus in trade in goods with the CAFTA-DR region in 2010, with exports reaching a record level of over $24 billion to all the CAFTA-DR countries.
• U.S. exports to the six CAFTA-DR partners grew 43% from 2005-2010.
U.S. Exports Up to CAFTA-DR partners
Overall U.S. exports to its CAFTA-DR partners in 2010 were $24 billion, up 21% from the previous year.
• U.S. goods exports to Costa Rica in 2010 were $5.2 billion, up 10 percent from the previous year.
• U.S. goods exports to the Dominican Republic in 2010 were $6.6 billion, up 24 percent from the previous year.
• U.S. goods exports to El Salvador in 2010 were $2.4 billion, up 21 percent from the previous year.
• U.S. goods exports to Guatemala in 2010 were $4.4 billion, up 15 percent from the previous year.
• U.S. goods exports to Honduras in 2010 were $4.6 billion, up 37 percent from the previous year.
• U.S. goods exports to Nicaragua in 2011 were $980 million, up 37 percent from the previous year.
AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS
• U.S. agricultural exports reached over $4.2 billion to the CAFTA-DR countries in 2010, up an average of 84% to these countries since 2005.
• U.S. agricultural exports were up 72% for Costa Rica, up 98% for the Dominican Republic, up 80% for El Salvador, up 76% for Guatemala, and up 91% for Nicaragua in 2010 from 2005.
OVERALL IMPORTS
• U.S. imports were $23.8 billion from the six CAFTA-DR countries in 2010, up 31% from 2005, and up 26% from 2009.
• U.S. imports in 2010 were up 55% from Costa Rica, 22% from El Salvador, 2% from Guatemala, 18% from Honduras, 24% from Nicaragua, and 11% from the Dominican Republic from the previous year.
AGRICULTURAL IMPORTS
• U.S. agricultural imports from the region were $3.4 billion in 2010, up an average of 53% from these countries since 2005.
• Since 2005, U.S. agricultural imports were up 42% from Costa Rica, 62% from the Dominican Republic, 48% from El Salvador, 51% from Guatemala, 30% from Honduras, and 147% from Nicaragua in 2010.
