United States and Chile Hold Sixth Meeting of the Environmental Affairs Council under the U.S.-Chile Trade Agreement

Santiago, Chile - This week, representatives of the United States and the Government of Chile convened the sixth meeting of the Environmental Affairs Council (EAC) under the U.S.-Chile Trade Agreement. Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Environment and Natural Resources Jennifer Prescott, and Assistant Secretary of State for Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Dr. Kerri-Ann Jones, co-chaired yesterday’s EAC meeting for the United States. The U.S. delegation included representatives from the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency.

At the EAC meeting, officials reviewed implementation of the Environment Chapter of the U.S.-Chile Trade Agreement. Chilean officials highlighted progress in establishing new environmental institutions such as environmental tribunals, measures taken to strengthen public participation, and advances in corporate social responsibility.

The afternoon session of the EAC meeting was open to the public, demonstrating the Council's ongoing commitment to an engaging and participatory process. At the closing of the session, officials presented the U.S.-Chile Joint Communiqué.
