Matt Rohde was named Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for World Trade Organization (WTO) in May 2007.  In this capacity he is responsible for trade negotiations and policy coordination regarding matters before the WTO, including the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) negotiations.  His duties also include serving as the principal negotiator for Russia ’s WTO accession, among others.  Mr. Rohde is responsible for trade policy coordination and negotiations in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).  Prior to assuming his current post, he served as Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for WTO Affairs, starting in 2001.

Mr. Rohde joined USTR in 1995.  He has served as lead U.S. negotiator on a variety of trade policy issues in the WTO, including playing a key role in the 2004 launch of negotiations on Trade Facilitation under the DDA.  He has negotiated bilateral and plurilateral agreements as part of work leading to the NAFTA, as well as FTAs with Jordan, Chile, Singapore, Morocco, and Central America.  Prior to joining USTR in 1995 he worked at the U.S. Customs Service.

Mr. Rohde was raised in Horicon, Wisconsin.  He holds a bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University, and a juris doctor from Depaul University College of Law.  He is married and has three daughters.
