LOS ANGELES – Ambassador Katherine Tai traveled to Los Angeles for the IX Summit of the Americas to engage with her trade counterparts and promote the Summit’s vision for a sustainable, resilient, and equitable future.
On June 7, she had bilateral meetings with Chile’s Under-Secretary for International Economic Relations José Miguel Ahumada Franco; Costa Rica’s Minister of Foreign Trade Manuel Tovar; Ecuador’s Minister of Trade Julio Prado; and Panama Minister of Industry and Commerce Federico Alfaro.
On June 8, she had a bilateral meeting with Haiti’s Minister of Trade Ricardin Saint-Jean.
In her discussions and meetings, she noted our shared ambition to use our partnerships in the Americas, including our free trade agreements, Trade and Investment Framework Agreements, and preference programs, to support people in the region in building prosperity and resilience through quality jobs, a strong pandemic recovery, and environmental sustainability.
She also announced a new hemispheric Declaration on Good Regulatory Practices, and met with several of the countries who have joined that effort. The Declaration has been joined by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Panama, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
