BANGKOK – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with South Korea’s Minister for Trade Ahn Dukgeun on the margins of the APEC Minister Meeting.
During the meeting, Ambassador Tai previewed the U.S. priority themes of sustainable and inclusive trade for the 2023 U.S. APEC host year, and asked for Korea’s continued close cooperation in APEC to think in new ways about how trade can benefit all our people and address new global challenges. The Ministers also discussed their close cooperation under the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, and agreed that a comprehensive framework would contribute significantly to addressing current challenges and realizing new opportunities.
The Ministers reiterated their common interest in addressing global challenges related to climate change, supply chains and strengthening the two countries’ relationship. Ambassador Tai acknowledged Korea’s concerns with the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and they reviewed the technical-level discussions within the ongoing engagement channel as the Treasury Department continues to develop guidance and implement all aspects of the law.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Ahn agreed to stay in touch on these and other issues in the weeks ahead.
