SAN FRANCISCO - Today, President Biden outlined the first whole-of-government approach to advance workers’ rights by directing departments and agencies to elevate labor rights in their work abroad through the Presidential Memorandum on Advancing Worker Empowerment, Rights, and High Labor Standards Globally. Ambassador Katherine Tai, alongside Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su, and labor leaders detailed the memorandum during an event in San Francisco, California today.
This action builds upon the unprecedented work undertaken by the Biden-Harris Administration to restore worker power in the United States, promote good jobs, and strengthen U.S. competitiveness.
“This Memorandum is our way of saying that we, the United States, see workers, both here and abroad,” said Ambassador Katherine Tai. “That we understand that, in an interconnected economy, the rights of workers around the world impact workers in the United States, too. That we stand with workers. And that we are fighting for them and with them. That is why our new story on trade puts workers and their rights at the center, and why we do the same throughout our foreign policy under the Memorandum.”
