Tom Conway was a strong advocate and leader for workers and American industry.
As we were developing our inclusive, worker-centered trade agenda in 2021, I closely consulted Tom and his leadership team. Tom always brought a unique, thoughtful, and informed perspective to those conversations.
Tom chaired our Labor Advisory Committee for Trade Negotiations and Trade Policy, an essential forum to help guide our administration’s agenda. Earlier this year, he brought his wisdom and counsel to the President’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy Negotiations.
One year ago, Tom invited me to speak at the 2022 USW Constitutional Convention in Las Vegas. It was an honor to address so many USW members. His generous introduction was one I will never forget.
Tom leaves a legacy of always standing up for working people, fair competition, and economic opportunity for all. We will strive to fulfill to the example he set. On behalf of the Office of the United States Trade Representative, I offer our deepest condolences to Tom's loved ones and our friends at USW.
