BRUSSELS – The U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai met today with Executive Vice President for the European Green Deal Maroš Šefčovič. Ambassador Tai and Executive Vice President Šefčovič discussed the intersection of trade and the green transition, including the importance of furthering transatlantic cooperation on climate.
Ambassador Tai emphasized the progress made in transatlantic cooperation over the past three years, noting that it is important for trade discussions to break out of narrow silos and be cross-cutting, and that how a product is made— including aspects like environmental sustainability and treatment of workers— needs to be considered.
Executive Vice President Šefčovič and Ambassador Tai also discussed the ongoing bilateral discussions related to critical minerals and steel and aluminum and agreed to keep in touch on these issues.
