WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met virtually with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Dr. Robert Habeck. Ambassador Tai congratulated Minister Habeck on his new position. She conveyed her interest in continuing U.S.-German and U.S.-EU cooperation to address trade challenges in order to promote a global economy that benefits workers.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Habeck reviewed the remarkable progress in the U.S.-EU trade relationship over the past nine months, and highlighted areas for future close cooperation, including on environmental technologies. They agreed on the importance of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council as a key forum for building a joint U.S.-EU vision for a transatlantic marketplace that drives a “race to the top” for labor and environmental standards. They agreed to stay in close touch over the coming months and under the upcoming German G7 Presidency.
