MUNICH — United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck. The meeting was held on the margins of the Munich Security Conference where the Biden Administration has reinforced the united determination to support Ukraine and hold Russia accountable for its brutal invasion.
Ambassador Tai began by thanking Minister Habeck for Germany’s leadership during its G7 host year in 2022.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Habeck discussed the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act and their countries’ ongoing work to develop innovative technologies to combat the climate crisis. Ambassador Tai thanked Minister Habeck for Germany’s strong commitment to a green transition.
Ambassador Tai emphasized the importance of the United States and Germany working together on shared priorities, including addressing the harmful impacts of economic coercion for citizens on both sides of the Atlantic. She welcomed Germany’s support for the negotiation of a global arrangement that addresses excess global capacity in the steel and aluminum industries.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Habeck pledged to keep in close contact on these issues as both countries work to strengthen their bilateral economic and trade relationship.
