HANOI – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai met today with Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Ambassador Tai began by thanking Prime Minister Chinh and his government for being such gracious hosts during her trip to Vietnam. Ambassador Tai and Prime Minister Chinh highlighted the 10th anniversary of the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership. They noted the breadth of cooperation between the United States and Vietnam on a wide range of issues and agreed to further enhance economic and trade priorities.
Ambassador Tai detailed the highlights of her trip, which has included meetings with government officials at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Information and Communication, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Ambassador Tai and Prime Minister Chinh agreed on the importance of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework to advance sustainable, resilient, and inclusive economic growth throughout the region and in the United States.
Ambassador Tai also detailed U.S. priorities for the 2023 APEC host year. She said the Biden Administration looked forward to welcoming Vietnam to the United States for the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade meetings and the Leaders’ Summit in May and November 2023, respectively.
Ambassador Tai noted that the United States also looked forward to convening a meeting under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement later in 2023. Ambassador Tai and Prime Minister Chinh agreed to remain in touch on these issues in order to deepen the bilateral relationship.
