Today we celebrate not only a man, but a vision. Where every person is treated with dignity and respect; where the vulnerable and oppressed are empowered and lifted up; and where all our citizens march forward together as equals.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. devoted his life to this dream and inspired countless others to do the same. He fought for economic justice and refused to settle for “economic conditions that will take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few.”
Through our work to make trade a force for good, we are advancing Dr. King’s legacy. Whether it is by eliminating forced labor in our supply chains or bringing historically excluded voices into the policymaking process, we are crafting trade policy that is rooted in humanity. Our work is a part of the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to use every tool at its disposal to break down systemic barriers and create policies that benefit all Americans, in pursuit of a more equitable, more inclusive, and more perfect union.
