Trade Agreements: The U.S. and the Southern Africa Customs Union (SACU), which includes Botswana, signed a Trade, Investment, and Development Cooperative Agreement (TIDCA) in 2008. The TIDCA establishes a forum for consultative discussions, cooperative work, and possible agreements on a wide range of trade issues, with a special focus on customs and trade facilitation, technical barriers to trade, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures, and trade and investment promotion.

U.S. goods exports to Botswana in 2022 were $45 million, down 14.6 percent ($8 million) from 2021 and down 6 percent from 2012. U.S. goods imports from Botswana totaled $455 million in 2022, up 80.9 percent ($204 million) from 2021, and up 106 percent from 2012. The U.S. goods trade deficit with Botswana was $410 million in 2022, a 106.3 percent increase ($211 million) over 2021.
U.S. foreign direct investment (FDI) in Botswana (stock) was $7 million in 2022, a 16.7 percent increase from 2021.
