WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met virtually with Ebrahim Patel, the South African Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Patel discussed the importance of exploring new opportunities for bilateral engagement and lauded the recent positive trajectory of the U.S.-South Africa trade relationship. They noted that South Africa has benefited tremendously from its AGOA preferences and agreed to find ways to enhance their bilateral trade relationship to better serve both countries over the long-run. Ambassador Tai and Minister Patel reaffirmed their support for strengthening and improving the WTO. Both leaders agreed to sustained dialogue in the future.
