PITTSBURGH – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Deputy United States Trade Representative Jayme White yesterday toured a lab at Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering, observed presentations and demonstrations, talked with students, and participated in a roundtable discussion with university officials and faculty. The tour was led by College of Engineering Dean Bill Sanders and Professor Erica Fuhs.
During the roundtable discussion, CMU university officials and faculty discussed their research and work, which complements USTR’s efforts to make America more globally competitive. In particular, participants discussed how to revitalize domestic supply chains, practical applications of machine learning and AI, and how innovation can spur greater economic growth and prosperity.
The tour and roundtable came after Ambassador Tai and Ambassador White attended the inaugural Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meetings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
