WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today virtually attended the annual East Asia Summit (EAS) Economic Ministers’ Meeting. Ambassador Tai emphasized the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to strengthening our economic relationship with Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region, and advancing a worker-centered trade policy. Ambassador Tai and EAS economic ministers discussed efforts to address the economic impact of the pandemic, climate change, and other economic and trade issues.
Ambassador Tai also expressed deep concern regarding the military coup in Burma and urged all members of the international community to press the Burmese military to reverse course, end the use of violence, release all those unjustly detained, and restore Burma's path to democracy.
