CHARLOTTE – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today visited Johnson C. Smith University to meet with students and discuss the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to creating inclusive trade policy. During the conversation, Ambassador Tai noted that the President’s 2021 Trade Agenda included racial equity for the first time in history and stressed that the benefits of trade must reach all communities, particularly those that have been historically overlooked.
The students then discussed how trade affects their lives and how USTR can shape trade policy that increases economic opportunity for minority-owned businesses. Ambassador Tai explained how engaging a broad range of stakeholders, including students, will lead to better policy and highlighted the Administration’s government-wide commitment to support the needs of HBCUs and the communities they serve.
