SEOUL – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Deputy United States Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi today met with Minister of Employment and Labor An Kyung-duk to share the Biden-Harris Administration’s worker-centered trade policy and to discuss the importance of promoting and protecting internationally-recognized worker rights, including freedom of association, for all workers and union leaders.
Ambassador Tai highlighted the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to developing an economic framework for the Indo-Pacific around shared objectives, including increasing economic security for workers in both countries. She also emphasized that the United States and Korea should cooperate closely to improve workers’ rights throughout the global supply chain.
Ambassador Tai and Minister An agreed that trade and labor issues are closely linked. They reaffirmed their commitment to engaging on workers’ rights and agreed to hold the KORUS Labor Affairs Council in 2022.
